3-Day Hiking Mount Meru

Standing at 4,562 meters, Mount Meru is Tanzania's second-highest summit and the fourth tallest in Africa. Its fame largely stems from being just 70 kilometers away from Mount Kilimanjaro. Many climbers use Mount Meru as a preparatory hike before attempting Kilimanjaro, and it is visible from Kilimanjaro's slopes.

Travel Itinerary

  • Duration: 5-7 hours of hiking

After an early morning breakfast in Arusha, you will be picked up from your hotel and brought to the Momella Gate in Arusha National Park. Meet up with your porters, guide, cook, and game ranger, and start climbing.

The first day of hiking is similar to a walking safari. You should expect to see giraffes, zebras, antelopes, buffalo, and potentially elephants near the trail. Due to the high possibility of spotting wildlife, an armed ranger, hired through the national park, is required to hike with our team for the duration of the hike. As you continue hiking, you will pass the Ngarenanyuki River and a beautiful waterfall at the base of Mount Meru. There, you will have the chance to see many different kinds of birds and black and white colobus.

Upon arriving at Miriakamba Hut, your chef will prepare a hot dinner for you. Enjoy the beautiful sunset and an overnight stay.
